Have you ever come home from only to realize that you’ve left your work computer at the office? A few precautions now mean that you can avoid the long drive to get it. Utilizing Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager allows you to securely access your company computers from any internet-enabled device, no matter where you are.

Sound too good to be true? It’s not! The Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager is a valuable productivity tool that will likely come in handy more often than you’d think it would. Additionally, it offers one of the most secure ways to access your workstation without being present. Benefits of the program include:

All connections are secure. The SSL Certificates that are used by the program only allow one opening in your firewall, keeping you safe from eavesdroppers and hackers. It’s the same security measures used by online banking systems!
It’s already a part of your system. If you have a Windows computer, the Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager comes preinstalled. All you have to do is configure it correctly to gain access to the wealth of services it has to offer. Then, you can access that workstation from any other device, including other PCs, Macs, Androids, iPads, and iPhones.
It offers more protection than a VPN alone. The Desktop Manager client securely creates a “tunnel” between configured computers, keeping out malware and malicious attacks right along with your VPN service.

If you have a Windows 10 Computer, below are some quick instructions for getting started using the Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager. These instructions are from the Microsoft website:

Set up the PC you want to connect to so it allows remote connections:

- On the device you want to connect to, select Start > Settings > System > Remote Desktop, and turn on Enable Remote Desktop.
- Make note of the name of this PC under How to connect to this PC. You’ll need this later.

Use Remote Desktop to connect to the PC you set up:

- On your local Windows 10 PC: In the search box on the taskbar, type Remote Desktop Connection, and then select Remote Desktop Connection. In Remote Desktop Connection, type the name of the PC you want to connect to (from Step 1), and then select Connect.
- On your Windows, Android, or iOS device: Open the Remote Desktop app (available for free from Microsoft Store, Google Play, and the Mac App Store), and add the name of the PC that you want to connect to (from Step 1). Select the remote PC name that you added, and then wait for the connection to complete.
